A Mad-Cap Feminist Farce

Daisies features two uninhibited young women, both named Marie. The two Maries develop outrageous pranks in this outlandish comedy. Daisies' slapstick, destructive climax led to its immediate banning by the government. The film was shown only briefly after being held from release for over a year.

Features extraordinary set design by the legendary Ester Krumbachova, and brilliant color cinematography and special effects by the great cameraman Jaroslav Kucera.

DVD options include full chapterization, a Vera Chytilova filmography and biographical sketch, and documents related to the banning of Daisies.

Czech New Wave
One of the greatest of all film movements, the Czech New Wave emerged during the 1960s, crested to extraordinary heights, then was savagely repressed by the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. This series continues Facets' commitment to one of the most exciting film movements of all time.
